FOUR DECADES OF LEADERSHIP

Anniversaries are expected, but seldom with remote broadcast of simultaneous celebrations from three major cities as Manila, Cebu and Iloilo.
Exactly, this is among unique features of the 40th Anniversary celebrations of BSM Crew Service Centre Phils (BSM CSC PH) last June 31st at the classy Sofitel Hotel by the romantic Manila Bay.
For one, Schulte Group Chairman Heinrich Schulte stood at the middle of the crowd in rapped attention to a video presentation of BSM milestones.
And touching, the BSM anthem composed and sang by CSC Philippines cadets from the Cebu branch, lyrical and optimistic at the chorus, “…Assuring future in everyone’s dream, a family across the seas, working together towards success. We’re BSM. We are one in BSM.”
Dignitaries were headed by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, with Atty. Joy Ban-eg, MARINA STCW Division Deputy Executive Director and senior regulatory public officials.
BSM returned the courtesy with corporate bigwigs in attendance, viz:
- Dr. Heinrich Schulte – Chairman, the Schulte Group
- Johann Schulte - Managing Director and CCO of Bernhard Schulte
- Christoph Schulte - Schulte Group shareholder representative
- Ian Beveridge -CEO, the Schulte Group
- Felix Leggewie - COO of Bernhard Schulte
- Sebastian von Hardenberg - CFO of BSM).
Over 500 participants included sea and shore staff mixing with local customers and representatives, diplomats and foreign guests, P&I clubs and seamen unions.
Everybody was formally welcomed by Capt. Sallaba, then Dr. Schulte paid tribute to the BSM CSC PH sea and shore personnel in glowing terms, the sincerity felt by both staff and audience.
Highlights included a cultural dance performed by the Seafarers’ Wives Club, followed by the Awards ceremony where the longest-serving sea and shore staff (even 40 years with BSM) recognized for loyalty and work excellence.
CEO Beveridge was moved to express, “We are very proud of our long and successful association with Filipino seafarers, and our major presence in the Philippines, the Number One seafaring nation.
We are determined to provide safe and satisfying jobs for Filipino seafarers for many decades to come, in order to serve our customers and our industry.”
As a member of the family-owned Schulte Group with over 135 years in shipping, the crew service center in the Philippines is part of the network of maritime solutions leader Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), operating in over 30 key locations world-wide.
BSM carries the largest pools of highly-skilled seafarers, essentially developed and trained by its crew center in the Philippines. The build-up rises to some 18,000, seamen ready and qualified to board any vessel as crude oil tankers, LNG carriers and bunker supply, LPG tankers, product and chemical tankers, container and bulk carriers, offshore support/FPSOs ships, cruise and research vessels, even new types of SOVs supplying wind farms.
It has received numerous awards for professional excellence, now holding central operations at its own 12-storey BSM House strategically at Leon Guinto Street, Malate District, Manila, with branch offices in Cebu City and Iloilo City.
